News 8 Highlight Zone - September 13, 2019

Zone, i'm ken kosirowski, flying solo tonight.

It's homecoming for several of our area schools tonight, so the electricity is in the air under the lights.

Our game of the week is in the mvc, as defending conference champ holmen takes on central on veterans memorial field.

Holmen and central both looking to get to 2 and oh in the m-v-c.

-- first quarter action, nathan nevala gets the pitch, blockers in front and he's in, holmen goes up 7-0 on the opening drive.

-- later in the first, cam weber on the keeper, has a seam and excellent blocking, and you know where it's going, more than 50 yards to the end zone, 14-0 holmen.

Central's turn now, johnny davis wearing brother jordan's number, rolling left and then throwing across to a wide open peter fleming, 14-6 now -- first play of the second quarter, it's brett holden, breaks one tackle, stiff arms another, and boom, 53 yards, 21-6 holmen.

-- near the two minute warning, holmen coughs it up in the red zone, and the red raiders pounce on it... -- on the other end, fourth and goal, johnny rolling left, finds brayden kuiper, 21-12 after a failed two pointer... -- in the second half, central's first drive is a dandy, johnny rolling right, and has all day to throw, cuts back right and eventually gets terrance thompson, 21-18 now... -- holmen has to answer and they march right down, give to holden for his second score, 28-18... -- in the fourth, the toss to jaedon abraham who was abnormally quiet, but here he goes, breaks a few tackles and almost springs free, but brought down inside the 10.

-- next play, vikings let the good times roll, nevala for his second score, 436 total yards for holmen, all of them rushing.

Vikings take this one 41-18.

23rd-ranked uw-la crosse football is set for a top 25 matchup against 14th-ranked illinois wesleyan, a team the eagles beat on the road by three last season.

Head coach mike schmidt says wesleyan is underrated and should be top 10, as they return a high-octane passing attack.

Uwl will try and surpass wesleyan's passing game by once again going with two quarterbacks of their own--evan lewandowski and jack dwyer.

<<<"we're going to keep playing both guys.

They both have really good qualities, and there's a reason why one guy isn't playing the whole time.

We'll keep rotating that thing through ehre as the season goes on.

Coach eash ha sbeen at illinois wesleyan for 33 years at his alma mater.

For me, i want to be like that.

I want to win 200 games here.">>> kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
