Two local men offer opposing views on the flag's fate

Need some assistance.

The controversy over the state flag continues to fly as many want to see it come down, some would like to see it changed , and still others want to see it stay just like it is.

Our wayne hereford spoke with two men today who have opposing views on the issue.

One man sells flags at flea markets and says he can hardly keep enough mississippi state flags to sell.

Another man is a local minister who says that the flag represents the worst in mississippi's past.

"if somedone don't want to fly them they don't have to, but if somebody wants to on their personal property i think they should be able to fly them".(terry hester mooreville) terry hester sells flags to make money.

But he says his opinion is to keep the mississippi state flag flying as it is at places like county courthouses and other governent buildings too.

"if had to say, if i had a choice on them i would say fly 'em.

But what i'm saying is i understand why some people don't want them flown.

But i look it at like this is a way for me to make a little money."

But tupelo pastor harold wilson says the state flag as it stands needs to go.

"what it represents to the african -american community .

Its time has past.

It still represents oppression.

Personally i can identify with that oppression."

Governor tate reeves said today that he people of mississippi should decide the fate of the state flag in a vote.

The last time was 2001.

But there has been a lot of people calling for it to come down including several mississipppi college and university coaches.
