Klamath Falls family makes 5,000 masks for local community

The Burnette family worked during their spare time to make masks for their neighbors in the Klamath Falls area.

And employees to wear masks sinneed.

I spoke with the burnette family today about how they made 5-thousand masks.

Joining us now, mackenzie collier, danielle and brad.

Thanks so much for being with us.

Thank you for having us.

So i'm seeing evidence of your hard work there behind you.

Uh, tell me a little bit about what the motivation was for making such a huge project.

Go, go so quickly.

Well, the reason behind it was is our children like to give back to our community and sort of my husband and myself, um, okay.

We just love our community so much.

We just felt that they all have ppe.

We know how to do mass production of this is why we did it is to make sure that our frontline workers were a hundred percent cover.

So other 5,000, how many people did you have worked on the project and how many machines did it take to get the whole thing put together?

Well, they were, we were working between 15 to 18 hours a day between my husband and myself and our kids were still in school with cascade virtual academy.

And so they never missed a beat school.

Okay.

So we would in between classes, they would help pattern cut out.

And then we would be at the machines a lot.

Well, you have a background in this and facilities to put out seven machines.

Tell me a little about what you folks do and how you use your expertise to get this project together.

Well, we got hooked up with a tricia over at my little coach.

She was our head organizer and i'm susie over at the linus project and we got a pattern from them and we just made industrial grade math.

Which are about 98% effective against the virus.

And we're testing in california.

We have all different sizes.

We do from children to teens, young adult and adult.

And you know, these are 98% effective.

They have a hotter, um, absent cotton canvas and with a flannel back insert.

Um, so yeah.

How does someone get a hold of those or where have all those masks ended up?

A lot of them ended up at the hospital choice, so we were mailing them out to them, making sure our community, our nine one, one dispatcher and climate has, um, our retirement homes.

The employees have the mirror, we just have them.

In home health care.

So you're, you're donating them to agencies in the area.

Can folks not associated with those agencies end up with one of those?

You'd have to be connected to one of those facilities to use one of those?

No, no.

They can, um, contact us through facebook.

Um, essential shop has a facebook page.

If anybody needs a map of us, we have some available for you.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome on that big, an order?

Making sure we had a quite amount of material.

We got material donated from joe leanne's.

They have material donated as well.

Um, molina's project ladies donated a lot of material tisha over at my little cold stop, tater patch, everybody donated material to the cars.

Well, the burnett family.

Thanks very much for all your hard work in those long days and making 5,000 master available to
