Footage shows heron in ten minute grapple with eel

A hungry heron grapples with a slippery eel it has caught for its breakfast in this amazing video footage. The long-legged freshwater bird repeatedly jabs at the eel with its beak as its slithering catch coils and wriggles in a vain bid to escape becoming meal.Eventually after a ten minute tussle the heron flew away with its prey firmly gripped in its beak. The brutal scene was captured by Rhiann Young,  47, as she walked along the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal near Newport, south Wales. She said: "The heron had been looking for it's prey along the canal for 20 mins but kept flying away as I approached."I thought it had disappeared then I came across the heron killing an eel. "I watched it for about 10 mins before it flew off with it's kill in it's beak."Although an animal is being killed I felt privileged to have seen nature at it's best - a heron needs it's breakfast!""The heron,  affectionately named Harold,  is a regular visitor to the area, I've taken many photos of the statuesque figure in recent months."
