>> a local non-profit is raising money to help those recovering from surgery or other treatments.

And we are welcoming back the executive director of a more healing kitchen.

Good to see you again.

>> good to see you.

>> so it looks quite billions at this time.

>> yes, we have continued to serve this whole time.

And we primarily serve people that are recovering or going through cancer treatments, and it's a good time to keep them safe and really at home as much as possible.

So bringing them food is very helpful.

>> maybe you can tell everybody what a more healing kitchen is all about.

>> so we serve people, and we prepare and deliver healthy and healing food from people recovering from surgeries or like i mentioned, going through cancer treatments.

And what is unique to our program is we bring in teenagers, and teach them culinary skills and nutrition, and they are the ones who prepare the meals every week.

>> oh, wow, and is that your background?

>> yes, i was a high school teacher for 15 years here in charleston county, prior to starting a more healing kitchen.

>> that's an experience for the teenagers.

We visited with the schools where they have the culinary program, and they love it.

And it's one of those things where they can jump into a career just right after high school.

But this adds that element of fill actpy on top of t but i'm wondering, because you're taking someone who has a suppressed immune system, that's quite delicate with a fragile constitution, and how do you impart on the volunteers that they need to be extra careful in providing meals that are healthy and free of any potential issues?

>> absolutely, i think being a high school teacher for so long, i really understand the teenage mind.

And really, they are ready to step up to challenge or service and being part of a bigger purpose if you give them the guidance.

So they are actually -- because we have kitchen mentors, we have adults that work alongside them.

But usually it's the teenagers that keep the adults in line.

>> really?

>> yes, sometimes our teenagers are actually the better listeners.

But during this time in particular, we have actually closed the kitchen to all of the volunteers, and just the staff is preparing the food because it's such a critical time that we unfortunately, for now, have had to stop with our volunteer program.

But hopefully, little by little, we'll be able to add them back in.

>> sounds like you have an event coming up, feed the soul.

And what is this?

>> it was one of our biggest fundraisers last year, it was a big farm to table evening under the stars, the farm, the sweet grass garder not where we operate on st.

John's island.

And as everyone else is adopting to the times, we created a pickup option, and farm to table.

And people can buy a ticket and pick up downtown this saturday.

So for mother's day weekend.

And we have a beautiful four-course meal planned for them.

It comes with flowers and a candle and we'll be creating a video to show you how to plate like a chef and create a unique dining experience at home.

>> that sounds so nice, and when does it take place, and where do people get more information?

>> it's this saturday, i believe it's the 9th, and the pickup will be 12:00 to 2:00 down at counter culture coffee, the training center downtown.

And they can go to our website or our social media to see the link for the tickets.

And we'll have the tickets available until wednesday at midnight.

>> perfect, and is there anything that anybody can do now to help your organization?

>> yeah.

You know, unfortunately like i said, the kitchen is actually closed, but we invite people to come onto our website and look at the different volunteer options.

Just creating awareness about our program.

We're fairly young, we have only been in operation for a little bit over two years so, any awareness, if there's anyone in the community that we can serve, we have the capacity.

>> out there, i want to thank you so much for joining
