Final day of session 3.30.21
IT'S THE LAST DAY FOR STATE LAWMAKERS AT THE CAPITOL FOR THIS SESSION.

C1 3 while a lot of monday's focus was on overrides of governor beshear's vetoes..

A few significant bills got one last chance today to make it to the governor's desk.

Including one about covid-19 liability protections for businesses.

Abc 36's monica harkins is in studio with more on what lawmakers are hoping will become law that's tonight's top story at 5:30.

Senate bill five - would add in liability protections for businesses that reasonably attempted to comply with covid-19 regulations.

Meaning someone would not be able to sue a business if they contracted covid-19 and blamed the buisness for not properly protecting them.

...critics worry it allows businesses too much freedom...while supporters argue it is not a blanket protection...gross negligence...or intentional misconduct is not protected.

It was debated on the house floor tuesday morning...whether it was even necessary to create liability protections at this point in the pandemic...and if it's constitutional to do so.

"rep.

Chad mccoy bardstown: we are giving them governmental immunity.

Governmental immunity.

We can't do that.

It's not only unconstitutional, it's not only bad policy, but it raises so many questions."

Butted "rep.

Shawn mcpherson scottsville: i would say we don't have a problem yet.

It is not politically correct to start lawsuits while we still have a pandemic.

But once this pandemic is over do not think that they will try to mine lawsuits."

Representative mccoy who you heard from first...did end up voting yes despite his opposition to part of the bill....it passed the house 70-to-27.
