Police officers in central Myanmar's Mandalay were filmed severely beating an unarmed civilian during a peaceful protest against the coup.

Footage filmed close to Mandalay Palace on February 15 shows many protesters running away from a line of officers who were sent to disperse the peaceful protesters.

One man is caught by the officers and they lay into him with their truncheons with unrelenting beatings from at least five different officers.

Myanmar's coup occurred at the start of February when democratically elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested and the army declared a state of emergency and assumed power.

Hundreds of thousands of Burmese people have taken to the streets in the past weeks taking part in protests and civil disobedience to reject the military junta.
