Another race we'll be watching is the buchanan county race for county assessor.

The seat has been long held by scot van meter, who is not running for re-election..

Kq2's madeline mcclain found out what the two candidates who are running believe they bring to the table.

<<two longtime county residents will face off november 3rd in the race to become the county's next tax assessor.democratic candidate chad farrow -- who works in the tax office as the chief county appraiser said his work relationships and experience set him apart from his opponent.democratic candidate chad farrow: "i wanted to find something i love to do.

I do love what i do.

Working with the state tax commission, working with the state assessors."while working in the office for the past 4 years he's seen how things operate, what needs to be done, and what needs to change.

Farrow: "my top priority is making sure we have the right people in the right positions so that they are happy, they are doing their job and we can continue to run smoothly.

Republican candidate dean wilson said the property appraisal experience he brings to the table makes him the best job.

Candidate dean wilson: "part of my responsibility here review appraisals.

I missed meeting the public, meeting and talking to homeowners and business owners, and dealing with that."wilson owned a small appraisal business for more 25-years in real-estate.

He also has been a state- certified appraiser for the last 20 years.wilson: "i know what it takes and how to work around a budget, to work with a staff, to meet state guidelines," the winner of the election will replace longtime tax assessor scot van meter.

When he exits -- both candidates promise taxpayers they will ensure the assessments are fair and their experience will inform those decisions.farrow: "to make sure they are fair, we are knocking on everybody's doors," farrow said.

"we are doing it in neighborhoods so that your neighbor and you, can feel that you have the same valuation to your home by the same person."wilson: "so you want to make sure that someone who is familiar with those values, someone who is familiar with the market."the candidates said they would look to implement changes within the office to make it more accessible to customers.
