Lee County now has a mask mandate in place as well as limitations on social gatherings.

Added 36 new coronavirus cases to its case count.

The most out of any other county in the area.

Monday -- governor tate reeves issued an executive order limiting the number of people at social gatherings and mandating masks in lee county and several others.

Wtva's chelsea brown spoke with tupelo's mayor about how this executive order changes somethings around town.

The newest executive order from the governor now includes of lee county, tupelo city already had a mask requirement in place.

I spoke with some of the mayors around the county and they say they plan on following the governors newest order.

I also talked with tupelo mayor jason shelton about how he feels about the new restrictions.

Jason shelton- tupelo mayor "i appreciate and applaud the governor taking this step, there is clearly a spike in cases happening."

Tupelo mayor jason shelton admits he has been critical of the governor in the past but is happy for the new executive order.

The new order requires face coverings to be worn inside business and a limit on group gatherings in lee counties.

No more than 10 people are allowed indoors and no more than 50 outdoors.

I spoke with shelton about the upcoming fair this weekend at the bancorpsouth arena and if the new order changes anything.

"the definition of social gathering is what we will have to look at."

A bancorpsouth arena worker told me they are allowing 3000 people into the fair at one time and will have signs posted reminding people to wear masks and to social distance.

Shelton says 3000 is about 25% capacity of the lot.

He says with halloween coming up organizations need to remember the limit of group gatherings.

"they need to be mindful of the governors executive order, this would directly apply to something like that gathering."

Mayor shelton says the city attorney is reviewing the definition of social gathering.

"the risks outweigh the fun."

The new executive order continues until november 11th.
