One Week after South Side Flooding (7-28-20)

Victims continuing to recover tonight.good evening.

I'm jodie o'brien.the southside struggle to clean up and return to some sense of normal is overwhelming... danielle soxy live tonight with more.

It's just a week after the flood occured in south side, and you can see not much has changed...leaving residents with more questions than answers... <<<pain, heartbreak, loss, families suffer as they continue to live through a disaster..."this house belongs to my mother in-law, her name is betty richie, smith, and she's 85 years old."betty, and many others have been living in southside for most of their life, seeing their reality wash away...."emptied out all her house.

Took what was salvagable up to a storage unit, put it in a storage unit.

And then we just started cleaning.

We had to take everything out, and anything that was below a foot and a half, we had to get out of the house."and there is no answer on when she'll be able to return"i''d say a good 6 months probably.

It's going to be a drawn out process.

Survpro is going to come in and they're going to clean it all up."she's not the only one in the family who was effected...more of the family happen to live right next door..."that's my sister in- law's house right over here" this house stood right in the middle of the path of the flood, destroying their brand new kitchen and backyard... "been helping just, whereever we can.

We've had ours sons down here, daughter, cousins, and just whoever wants to help.""i'm from the southend, this is where i grew up, i ran these streets, i rode bikes everywhere down here.

You know i know these people, these are my people.

You know i grew up with these guys.

The people i didn't know, theyre my people now.

We're tight.

I can't watch this, i can't let this happen, you know."and dr. green thumb landscape service is putting their money where their mouth is by stepping up in a big way-(nats)becuase that's what southside families do-they lend a hand when it's needed.>>> while the family is seperated right now due to the flooding, they hope to be back together as neighbors again soon.
