Visiting the corinth national cemetary on memorial day.

Wtva's wayne hereford visited the historical site and spoke with visitors about their thoughts on this day of rememberence.

"inside the corinth national cemetary there are thousands of soldiers buried here .

I talked to some folks who said that when you have lost a loved one who served, memorial day takes on a lot more very proud of them."

"this is what this day is all about .

Its not about me.

Its about my brothers that didn't make it home.

That's what this memorial day is all about."

Vietnam veteran honnel lancaster said memorial day means a lot more than picnics and parades.

"and a lot of people don't understand that.

They think its just a day to celebrate and barbecue and have fun and go around.

When they should be over here thanking these guys for the freedom that they got now because freedom ,sir, is not free."

Lakeisha isabell came to honor her grandfather who served during world war two.

"i'm honoring my grandfather willie b.

Eades.

My grandfather was a hero to me.

He always ahard-working man.

I wanted to come out and put this on my grandfather's grave."

Lakeisha isabell- baldwyn as for paula smith and her husband danny, they honored two people buried very near each other.

"my daddy died way back in 1988.

And he was in the navy.

Served at the end of world war two.

And my mother died about a year ago.

So we were out here looking at their graves so i have two uncles buried out here.

So remembering them today and all of those that served.

So i'm very proud of them."

Paula smith-corinth the government dedicated the corinth national cemetary in 1866.

There are some twenty acres of property here with over 7100 people buried here.
