To the shiloh national military park in honor of memorial day.

That's despite the fact that offices are still closed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Wayne hereford joins us live from corinth to tell us about who traveled to the park in the midst of this pandemic.

Im inside the corinth national cemetary in corinth.

But thirty minutes to the north , there's a military parked called shiloh.

Its a place where many soldiers died in a a bloody civil war battle and a special destination this memorial day.

"i'm actually retired military.

We had a squadron commander.

I was a pilot and he was a big civil war buff and talked a lot about the strategy.

So he actually kind of forced us at the time to study some of these battles and stuff and shiloh was one of the battles."

Blaine standiford drove with his family from austin texas to visit shiloh despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Union and confererate soliders fought here to control the area.

"it was definitely a key point and both sides fought very hard.

Up on the hill there's a count of five hundred union soldiers that died and they couldn't count the confederates."

The park is very historic which is why nick williams wanted to bring his boys here.

Even though much of the park is closed right now because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"when i come out here i always think about what it would have been like .

A lot of men put their lives on the line."

It appears that the history of the battle of shiloh will never be forgotten.

"cause i wanted to see the cannons."

The shiloh national military park is temporarily closed right now due to the pandemic.

However, visitors are allowed to view the grounds.
