A major rift has erupted in Europe as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reportedly clashed with French President Emmanuel Macron over the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine.
According to Corriere della Sera, Macron pushed for a European deployment, while Meloni sharply opposed the idea, warning that Russia’s massive army made such moves unrealistic.
“How many soldiers should we send to match 1.3 million Russians?” she allegedly asked.
The confrontation came just before Meloni, Macron, and other leaders joined Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House for high-stakes talks with Donald Trump following his Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin.
While Macron continues to float a “coalition of the willing,” Meloni favors NATO-style protections without direct deployment.
Germany, Poland, Spain, Romania, and Croatia also reject sending troops, leaving Europe divided as fears grow that NATO boots on the ground could ignite World War III.
