An Air India plane carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew has crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad in northwest India.
Flight 171 was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick Airport, with 53 British nationals onboard.
Politicians and communities in the UK have expressed their shock at the news.
