I will give you the history of the tunnel from the man who designed it, Claudius Crozet, to the men and boys who created it.
This is truly an extraordinary place and one you won’t forget any time soon.
The tunnel is an .8 mile walk, 700 feet below Rock Fish Gap.
The trail is a 4.5-mile round trip hike.
There are two parking areas, one in Augusta County on the west side and the other in Nelson County at Afton Mountain.
The tunnel was constructed from 1850-1858.
