Health secretary: We need to invest more in patient services

Steve Barclay says the government has listened to the recommendations of the Pay Review Body in terms of pay for NHS staff, and highlights the need to invest in more diagnostic centres, surgical hubs and social care in order to reduce patient backlogs.

The health secretary was speaking on a visit to Norton House care home in central London on the day of a 24-hour strike by nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and on the eve of a strike by ambulance workers in England and Wales.
