A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murdering another boy of the same age who died after being attacked in Gateshead.
A 13-year-old girl has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Chief Superintendent Helena Barron of Northumbria Police says both suspects remain in custody while a murder investigation continues.
