International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan argues energy companies like BP "lead the way" in helping the UK transition to clean alternatives "of the future", along with providing the country with energy "security" in the present.
She says the large profits announced today are necessary so they can "maximise" their North Sea oil and gas reserves and allow the UK to help stabilise global energy prices.
