And i'm jessica hartman.... 44news report valerie lyons was in union county -- following the developing situation -- minute by minute.

She has the latest -- at this hour.

We know the standoff lasted several hours before the suspect finally came out of his room here at the hometown inn off us-60 and was taken into ksp custody an intense situation at a western kentucky motel -- "everybody, union county people kept piling over there trying to see what was going on, well a cop came over and was like, 'you all need to move your vehicles in case something happens."

Multiple law enforcement agencies -- including the fbi and us marshals service -- negotiating for nearly 3 hours with 36-year old alexander mcwilliam -- a career criminal -- released just 6 months ago -- according to court records.

The saline county man -- wanted this time -- in connection to the murder of an illinois woman on march 13 -- "i was just like, what's going on and i came in and i sat at one of the booths and they said you can't sit there and i was like oh my god something is really going on and we just kept staring at it."

After hours of back and forth -- fbi units used a flash bang -- minutes later -- mcwilliam finally walked out and surrendered -- perdue:?i was just like thinking, i was like thank god he just surrendered himself and turned himself in and it got over with.it just different.

It really different.

The case -- mcwilliam is tied to -- started as a missing person's case.

When 19-year-old -- mishealia meredith didn't make it home - on a friday night.

Her body was found in a rural part of gallatin county -- that sunday.

- after police found evidence of her death -- at a home in el dorado.

Mcwilliam is being held in the webster county jail -- awaiting extradition back to saline county -- on first degree murder charges.
