In a fire department, best practices can mean the difference between life and death.
Kimt news 3's alex jirgens is looking into a new data collection program aimed at improving best practices for fire departments nationwide.

Now - the national fire protection association is calling on the department here to fine tune strategy.

The department will be collecting data and submitting that data to the national fire protection association.
The overall goal is to use that data to improve practices and safety.

The pilot program makes a risk analysis tool for us to use so we can put together a program that helps us come up with fire prevention ideas."
Bullinger tells me the first set of data is expected to appear on a new dashboard that is part of the program sometime in june.
