Body found near Stewart Park Duck Pond

Police are still investigating a body found near the stewart park duck pond in roseburg monday night.

Witnesses say it was a homeless man.

Kezi 9 news reporter evita garza shows us how homeless advocates are trying to make sure it doesn't happen again.

He says he doesn want to see anyone else die, after the death monday night, at the stewart park duck pond.

00:13 michael kelly:?a friend of mine, who was camping with him, found the body and he pretty upset?

Roseburg police haven't identified the person... or cause of death.

But, kelly tells us it was his friend, patrick who was also homeless.

He think patrick died because he had nowhere else to go.

He needed assistance with than and unfortunately there was no one out here?

Normally, the roseburg dream center warming center would be that place.

But, executive director timothy edmondson says they're not running the shelter this year, because of covid.

Though if someone was going to turn up positive here, lets say we have a bunch of people spending the night and someone turns up positive, it shuts everything down?

He says he not sure enough people are prepared?

Edmondson says they are trying to help the homeless in other ways& like providing them with food, clothing and camping gear.?we can go out and take those to the people and keep them warm while their outside?
