Eviction Moratoriums expiring

Iowa's eviction moratorium expires December 31.

Minnesota's expires when the governor's peacetime emergency order expires.

Tuesday, as new for you on daybreak.

The national eviction moratorium is set to expire at the end of december... meaning people can get evicted from their home if they aren't paying rent at the beginning of the new year.

This morning, madelyne is going to break down how that law is different in minnesota compared to iowa.

Well as tyler just mentioned... come january 1st, that option will no longer be available.

However, if you're a minnesotan... this does not apply to you.

The eviction moratorium is under governor tim walz's peacetime emergency order and that is still ongoing.

The housing director in olmsted county, dave dunn, tells me the family support and assistance department has helped out over 500 families in the county with rental assistance througheg there's a huge need to protect people from becoming homeless in our community.

If you're behind on your rent because of the pandemic... reach out to your landlord "the second thing to do is to look for some of these emergency assistance funds, but do it immediately because some of these funds are starting to run out and more of them will run out as we get closer to the end of the year.

So it's very important for people right now to make outreach."

Dunn tells me right now, there's no talk of when the peacetime emergency order will expire in minnesota.
