Due to covid-19, the school district has been having a hard time finding substitute teachers.

By increasing pay for substitutes, the district hopes they will be able to retain (more qualified individuals.

Superintendent, les huddle, says teachers who are working in the building have been filling in for teachers that are gone.

This is due to a lack of subs.

Maybe we have to have them cover part of that class which doesn't help us with social distancing at this time.

So when we can't find enough subs it just dominos in to a lot of uncomfortable things substitute teachers will now receive 100 dollars a day.

Long-term substitutes who sign to fill a vacancy for 6 weeks, or longer, will receive the same rate as first year teachers on daily rate.

That equals out to around 38-thousand dollars a year.
