'Insult to injury': Camp Fire survivor loses home in Berry Creek

A Berry Creek man who was forced to evacuate by the Bear Fire feels devastated after he says this is the second time he lost his home by a fire, the first time was the Camp Fire.

(standup:) we're here at village market and liquor a local gasoline station in berry creek.

And take a look at what it looks like now.

The building is destroyed.

Its just one of the many signs of destruction left behind by the bear fire.

Rubble on the ground, power lines knocked down and trees blackened.

This is what is left of berry creek after flames ripped through the area, "there are a lot of people who have been there for 50 years."

This is paul clement - he waited until the very last moment to get out.

"i stayed up there until about 12:45 because i wasn't going to leave without seeing flames having been through the camp fire recently" you heard right... clement lost his home in the camp fire and now the bear fire.

"it's hurts more this time than it did last time."

Clement lived there with his wife and two dogs.

"being that we're starting to rebuild our life.

And getting things back together again and having to rebuild.

Is rather devastating."

And he isn't the only one who lost a home.

You can see what once stood a home... all that's left is the chimney.

And here you can see a car gutted by the fire.

(standup:) "take a look behind me the fire is burning here at foreman recreation area near berry creek.

You can see the fire is charring vegetation and trees here.

Firefighters tell me they do have a good handle on this spot, saving a pocket of homes in the area."

"we're just very happy to get out of it alive."

So as firefighters continue hosing down flames.

I asked clement what is next for him.

"yeah we're going to start over again.

We don't have a plan yet we've talked for quite awhile about leaving california.

This may be the catalyst we'll see."

While clement makes his decision... berry creek remains a ghost town blanketed by smoke.

"some people im sure dont have insurance.

You know where they're going to go what they're going to do.

Its going to be real challenging."

(standup:) we will continue to update you about the bear fire as new information comes in.
