Water levels low at Delta Lake

Boat launches may be closing early after an abnormally dry season caused low water levels.

But at delta lake, you'll have to bring the boat back out with you.

This is because of low water levels.

None because of coronavirus, many people have taken to the boats this summer.

But with a lack of rain, water levels are extremely low.

As you can see here at delta lake.

Vo: normally, delta lake is no lower than 44 feet, but right now it's only at 35 feet.

This comes after a record dry june, plus an overall lack of rainfall this summer.

In total, we've only had about one foot of rainfall for the past 3 months combined.

This is bad news for boaters.

Sot: "unfortunately, when labor day hits i believe that we're going to have to shut down our boat launch and we're going to have to take all of our docks out of the water."

Vo: this is much earlier than expected for a-ok camp & marina.

Usually boaters don't have to pull their boats out of the water until october.

The reason for the early removal is extremely low water levels.

One camper who's been coming to delta lake for over 20 years say she's never seen the water level this low before.

Sot: "this is probably the lowest i've ever seen it.

We've camped a total of 26 years and i've been a boat owner for 24 out of the 26 years.

So no, this is pretty sad."

Vo: many campers are sad that the boating season will be cut short this year.

Sot: "the weather is really nice and we're having a great weekend, but it's kinda sad.

My boat was kind of laid up for a while and now i want to use it and it's coming out probably next week.

So it's a sad thing, you know."

Vo: but delta lake boaters have enjoyed the beautiful weather this summer.

Sot: "we've been able to enjoy boating and jet skiing all summer long.

It's been a great season."

Vo: the record heat we've had this summer made perfect weather for boaters.

Standup: if you have a boat on delta lake, i hope you get out on the water and enjoy it before you have to bring your boat back in.
