Chico Marketplace employees react to reopening, some want the mall closed

The Chico Marketplace opened up indoor operations this week [Monday], and some mall employees are happy their back to work, but others think the mall should stay closed as cases rise in the area.

New tonight - california's color-coded system allows for shopping malls to open up with restrictions.

Butte county has been deemed a purple county which is the highest level of shutdown.

Action news now reporter esteban reynoso is live at the chico marketplace.

Esteban how do mall employees feel about having the mall open?

The chico marketplace opened up indoor operations this week, and mall employees i spoke to today are happy their back to work, but others think the mall should stay closed as cases rise in the area.

"the cases haven't gone down, so i think the mall should just stay closed for out safety."

One employee thinks opening the mall was a mistake.

"i just don't feel comfortable coming back to work, but i gotta pay bills at the end of the day."

Another employee agrees that getting back to work is necessary.

"i'm happy that the mall is open, only because it's good to get back to work.

The only downside is --" and that downside is confusion after the mall reopened for the second time this month.

"it's hard having to constantly switch between filing for unemployment and then having to get back to my job because the government doesn't know where i am at this point.

So it's like there's just massive loses of income."

That loss of income isn't the only fear this employee carries with him.

"my dad is really sick and i take care of him, like two to three people in my family are compromised so yeah it's definitely a fear of mine."

But for david donez, there's always a risk, "there's risk that's always going to be out there.

The way i see it, i'd rather take a risk in a controlled area or controlled enviornment where i can maintain things that way i don't put my family at a bigger risk."

And for donez responsibility comes first.

"i didn't have to come back, so for me the reason why i did was because i'm the manager.

Someone has to man the ship."

Still, some employees feel all the precautions aren't enough.
