The national controversy over the u.s. postal service reached eugene today... as local leaders held a press conference blasting the federal government over proposed changes.

Kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome was at that press conference and joins us live from in front of the post office and emma what was said?

Chynna senators ron wyden and jeff merkley along with representative peter defazio and others gathered here today at the post office downtown addrsing concerns they says are flooding in from oregonians over changes in the postal service wyden cited concerns from constituents who say some of the cost cutting measures like decreased overtime and eliminating sorting machines has caused their prescriptions to come late -- sometimes weeks late.

A representative with the postal service saying while some may experience minor delays.

It is not a system wide issue sen ron wyden (d) oregon butted with phone* 1 in 5 prescriptions is delivered exclusively by mail.

And physicians tell us that if patients don't get their medicine in a timely way they're going to suffer.

// ernie: we have instituted some cost cutting measures and it could possibly result in delayed delivery on certain occasions but certainly not wide spread tomorrow the house --- which is controlled by democrats --- will vote on a 25 billion dollar funding package as well as a bill that would prohibit changes to the postal service until after the election.

Experts say it's questionable whether republicans in the senate would pass the same bill.

Election day is only 74 days away.

Mail in voting is a long time oregon tradition.
