Cruel dog owner hangs jerry can rounds her pet's neck to make it behave

A pet dog was punished by its owners by having a jerry can hung around its neck.

The one-year-old mongrel named Nil was seen struggling to walk around the street in Krabi, southern Thailand, on Monday (Aug 3).

Concerned locals reported the suspected animal cruelty to the authorities who questioned the owner Patcharee Rakwong, 45, later that day.

Patcharee said the jerry can, around a quarter filled with water, was the only way she had found to control her pet's mischievous behaviour.

She said that Nil, a female, had damaged plants in the yard and chased after motorcycle riders who pass the front gate.

However, she does not want to lock Nil in a kennel all day so she came up with the idea of letting her roam freely, but with the wight on her neck.

She believes that a jerry can will slow down her pooch's movements and stop her from causing problems. Her family also insisted that the black Aspin breed of dog has not been harmed because they remove the bottle at night.

Patcharee said: "Nil has been damaging my garden for a year but I do not want to lock her up.

I put a huge can on her neck and found that she has been better since then." Nil has another two siblings but they had not been punished like her.

Officials from the local council said they will check back next week for an update on the condition of the dog.

A spokesman said: ''We did not think this was an appropriate way of controlling a pet but we will need to check the guidelines we have.

Then we will return to see if the dog is healthy before proceeding.''
