Petition to Delay EVSC’s 2020 Start Date Circulates Online

New since five-- some evansville parents--are pushing back against school officials -- over back to school plans.

They've started a petition-- calling for e-v- s-c to consider delaying the start date.

44news reporter erran huber is speaking with those calling for*more time.

Out of our family of seven, we have four that are immune compromised.

So leslie webb is one of more than five hundred and counting concerned parents asking the evansville vanderburgh school corporation-- to reconsider their august 5 start date.

This year would mark a big milestone for one of her daughters--the first year of high school.

But-- "i don't know how i can safely send my child to school and know that she's not going to get sick when she's immune compromised."

Liz garcia-- wanting to do something to raise parents' voices-- i started a petition to try to push back the start date for evsc, because i just feel like august 5 is just a little early to send all the students back at the same time.

She says--she's looking at past sicknesses--as she's worried about the future.

"i know how the flu spread so quickly.

We had, i don't remember how many cases last year of the flu, but it was very intense.

I know how quickly things spread in schools.

My concern is mostly for students' and staff health."

A concern-- hundreds of parents tonight-- are saying they share.

Calling for reconsideration.

We did reach out to evansville vanderburgh school corporation for their response to the parents' petitions.

We haven't yet heard back.

But we'll keep you posted on all you need to know before the start of school.
