Increase in cancelled blood donations

Mayo clinic says if you need to cancel an appointment, call first so someone else could possibly fill your time slot.

But we're finding mayo clinic's blood donor program is having a problem keeping a steady flow of donors.

Before the pandemic ?

"* you could just walk inside the mayo clinic blood donor program in the hilton building and staff would immediately take you through the donation process.

Now ?

"* because of covid?

"* the program is accepting donations by appointment ?

"* to make sure there's not too many people in the room at a time.

With this new appointment system ?

"* the blood donor program is experiencing a higher than normal cancellation rate.

Especially now that more surgeries are resuming at mayo ?

"* the clinic relies on daily donations to sustain its supply.

Dr. justin kreuter tells me its important for the community to know how appreciative the program is we really are the little blood donor center that could for this community.

This community is what makes this place happen.

We've been largely dependant on ourselves.

The red cross in the twin cities, the other blood collectors in the area, everyone's having challenges meeting the needs of their hospitals, so we've been largely working autonomously if you have some free time and would like to donate ?
