Protest march from Kemble Park to Oneida Square

Protests happening all over the country right nofoo died after a minnepolis police officer kneeled on his neck.

That officer is charged with murder.

In oneida square, a peaceful protest.

Organized by residnets in the community.

It started at kemble park.

We have news channel 2's brent kearney live at oneida square where the protest ended about an hour ago.

Brent good evening.

Callihan law enforcement was definitely concerned for everyone's safety today and i think it was a relief for them that this rally stayed peaceful.

But just to recap what happened today.

At around 2:30 this afternoon, hundreds gathered on kemble street to prepare for thier march to kemble park.

Protesters could be heard chanting i cant breath and black lives matter.

A few minutes later, the crowd marched down oneida street on their way to oneida square.

Some utica police officers escorting the crowd and marching with them.

Once they arrived at the park, the area was completly shut down by police so the protesters could rally safely.

I spoke with some of them there that were impressed and proud of the way things turned out today.

We are standing up for what's right we all should treatedequn wrong is wrong right is right.

(no name) if we come together like what we're doing right now this is supposed to be a peaceful rally this is supposed to be everyone coming together you see people laughing everybody chilling some places and other people don't know how to vent like we do.

This i am proud of other countries and other states i'm not really too happy with.

None it was very peaceful no riots it was nothing like what they're having in new york city rochester syracuse buffalo nothing it was very peaceful it went very peaceful and it made utica stand proud.

As for what happens tonight, utica police say they are increasing patrols.

And i did see state police and the sheriff's department as well.

Just making sure, nothing gets out of hand.
