Campgrounds are busy as parks easy restrictions in time for Memorial Day

Even with all the people, campers practiced proper social distancing.

Me they are grateful to have been able to visit the memorials in washington d.c., but there are still plenty of ways you can show your respect wherever you might be.

Kenneth: "usually we spend it with our families.

I'm a veteran of the navy, and i've got some nephews and nieces who have been in the service.

Usually we would get together with them and just memorialize-- especially the ones you gave their lives."

The eugene masonic cemetery will have "taps" played at noon on monday, and the "hope abby mausoleum" will be open upon request.

Camp creek cemetery in springfield will be holding an online ceremony service on monday.

Shirley: "with the virus, people have really stayed in but we always go to the cemetery and take flowers out to the cemetery."

The oregon national guard will be flying over the county on monday.

And in lane county, this will take place from 11:18 a.m.

To 11:24 a.m.

Reporting in eugene, kennedy dendy kezi 9 news this is the first weekend in months that people were able to pitch a tent... light a campfire... and enjoy some fresh air.

Lane county parks opened their campgrounds last thursday and the willamette national forest opened their sites on friday.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy shows us how campers are enjoying their holiday weekend.

It's a relaxing holiday weekend for the schmeling family.

Mom: "if you know our family this means the world to us."

They parked their trailer at arimitage park and set up shop for the long weekend--- so did other families-- the campground was nearly full and each camper was following social distancing.

Mom: "we camp all the time so it's been really really hard not to get out and camp."

Boy: "it's pretty fun, it's way better then being stuck inside all day."

It was just last week the family thought camping wasn't going to be an option this summer.

"within an hour of noticing if the parks were opening we made our reservations to make sure we get here."

Not only lane county parks... but the willamaette national forest announced a select number of campgrounds would be open... including paradise, delta, black canyon, and yukwah campgrounds.

Mom: "in feburary we actually reserved most of the summer already so i'm hoping those reservations stay and we can continue to camp for the rest of the summer."

Lane county park did put some restrictions on common areas.

Showers.... laundry rooms.... and pinic areas are all closed to keep crowds down.

Connor: "another restriction is group campsites are closed.

Here at armitage park, the campground host put up these barriers to keep people from pitching a tent.

Mom: "for us it hasn't been really any different because we are very self contained."

For the schmeling family... there maybe changes... but this holiday weekendis chance to feel a sense or normalsy.

Son: "i'm glad i am able to come out and have fun."
