Once the purdue university restrictions on face-to-face events ends on june 30.

News 18's marvin bills spoke with the purdue extension director about the provisions they plan to make for all 4-h fairs as this pandemic continues.

" a lot of people like them in terms of the food, the animals, all of the other rides and entertainment you can have.

It'll be a little bit different this year."

Director of extension at purdue jason henderson is in charge of overseeing all 4-h fairs that take place throughout the state of indiana.

He says they are making several changes for this year's events.

"we'll have to limit some attendance to make sure there's six feet between those sitting on bleachers watching some of our events."

In addition to practicing social distancing employees and volunteers will be screened upon entering the fair and cleaning stations will be set up through out the space for fair goers.

"there probably be a few more minor provisions.

One will be collecting peoples names and contact information.

So if there was a covid-19 incident we can turn that information over to local health authorities to really facilitate contact tracing."

Overnight stays for animals will be limited and 4-h fairs this year will also offer a virtual experience for those who choose not to attend.

"we think attendance will be down.

So that might limit some of the activities that we've traditionally had at the fair.

But we'll be planning for probably some smaller crowds this year."

Henderson says 4-h is a strong part of many communities.

That's why the planning for each 4-h fair will be a collaboration between purdue extension, 4-h and the counties.

"4-h is about hands on learning experiences for youth on various different skills from leadership to communication.

In this important time as we are re-opening the state if we can have a venue where we can celebrate our youth i think thas a good thing for us to have."

In tippecanoe county, marvin bills news 18.
