Dr. Ed Nichols Named City Schools Superintendent

WAAY 31's Will Robinson-Smith was live outside of the Madison County School System Office where he spoke with Dr. Ed Nichols about coming back to lead the school system.

>> well, as you mentioned coming back is the right term because he was briefly here at madison county schools.

He was the interim superintendent from december 20 16 through february 2017.

Now, of course, dr. nichols comes to the school system at an interesting time.

Of course amid a pandemic response.

He says over the course of the next 60 days he will have several wide ranging discussions with many people about where the school district is and where they want it to go.

He says both he and other superintendents expect to receive guidance from the state superintendent about what the fall semester would look like.

Right now he's coordinating with the current interim superintendent about the transition process between today and when he will officially start his first day here as the new superintendent will be on june 1.
