After a teenager attended his graduation without telling the school he was potentially exposed to the coronavirus, Breken Terry explains how he and his family may be in trouble.

It surpassed 200,000 total tested.

A teenager from decatur and his family might be in hot water after going to austin high school's graduation without telling the school they were potentially exposed and waiting on test results.

Days later that graduate tested positive.

>> najahe sherman: breken terry started asking the state and local police questions.

If the graduate and the family could be in trouble.

Breken, what did you learn?

>> alabama department of public health told me if you are waiting on coronavirus test results, you should not leave your house because then you're risking possibly exposing others to the coronavirus if those test results are positive.

But they cannot legally force you to stay at home while you're waiting for those test results.

The superintendent of decatur city schools told waay 31 the school system took the temperature of graduates and their families.

Now, workers also asked if they came in contact with anyone who had coronavirus, the district said it did its part and the family was not honest.

I reached out to the attorney general's office and learned the current health order states if a person tests positive and still goes out for anything but medical treatment, they can be charged with a misdemeanor and face a fine up to $500.

Now, decatur police told me at this time no charges have been filed against the graduate or that graduate's family.

The alabama department of public health told me it's unlikely anyone that every person, i'm sorry, at austin high school's graduation was exposed to this graduate.

But if you were and that graduate you're going to know because you're going to be getting a phone call from some of the state's contact tracers.
