This weekend would have been the buffalo trace council's spring camporee, however due to the coronavirus pandemic, the scouts had to adapt and go virtual.

We appropriately titled it the cabin fever virtual camporee and we're very excited about it today.

The volunteers that were working on the committee shifted it to become a virtual camporee so we changed our programming events and functions to really match up more in a virtual setting.

We've been adapting and changing to making it different for all of our participants all the way.

The cabin fever virtual camporee hasn't just drawn scouts from here in the tristate, organizers have gotten participants from different parts of the world.

The biggest surprise with our event today is the wide spread communication that social media has.

We have scouts participating from 12 different states all across the country and we also have a scout signed up from okinawa japan, he received the information from a relative here in the evansville market that shared it with him and he signed up and he's participating today as well.

Though this event is being done online, there are still plenty of activities for participants to have fun and sharpen scout skills.

The scouting program really does promote three key areas.

One is duty to our country, and we started off our day with a flag ceremony, duty to others is happening this afternoon with a family project and duty to one's self and to god as well we have an interfaith chapel service later this afternoon so we've got a lot of different activities planned for scouts and our families as well.

And during these times organizers believe we can all learn from points of the scout law as a scout is helpful, friendly, courteous, kind and cheerful.

Today is a perfect example of that we have scouts that are in first grade or kindergarten that are participating in our scouting programs today and we also have scouts that are in their teens and they're coming from all across the territory as well as across the country.

Our scouts are using their faith in others and helping others in their community in a lot of different service projects.

Whether it is collecting food or helping others on the front lines, but out scouts are doing amazing things.
