How soon can sports return in the U.S.?
How soon can sports return in the U.S.?

Dr. Rand McClain explains what it will take to resume sports in the United States.

(take josh key) josh shelton: as some professional sports around the world begin to restart.

People in the united states are wondering when sports migggg resume here.

The answer to that question isn't as simple as just putting a date on the calendar.

Joining me now is the chief medical officer of the lcr health and a leader in sports medicine, dr. rand mcclain.

Dr. mcclain.

Thanks for joining me today.

Dr. rand mcclain: my pleasure.

Thanks for having me on.

Josh: now, dr. mcclain, if you wouldn't mind giving us just a brief summary of the work you within sports medicine.

A rand key)dr. mcclain: okay.

Ie time, i don't really seskople.

E ready inretty good shape who nt tget even better.we focus ons dicine.sh: all right.

Now enit g professional sports likthe nba , at's it going to ke to get thato ve to test everybody, dcertainln her words, but the adminrsonnele staying.

That's going to be sential, particularly in thebegy ere has to be compliance with e rules, whether it's in the bble they're proposing in jor league baseball or the localepped for nhl, ettera., yot nsiderably as we have beenle tod states.

Rop key)josh: and what are some ways to mitigate that risk of spreading within teams whilethe) dr.cclain: well, ofcourse, it de game, right?

I mean, tennis and lf, it's more easy to, todress g equently and isolating thoseat e intained.

If the players and eryone else is compliant atsomee oops, so to sak.d it shouldn't e fans would be able to play at eseas?

Cause i'm assingght now , ',e're working on, um, tvos onla of bringing fans in, uh, you ow, it'possible happen thisar, t until we gemore treatments or certainly a cure would be greate e goi to accept the amount riskn bringing fans to the stadium, en if we separate them, uh, in e eay going, maybe nextyear, pra ccinand that could be dressed.

But at this point, i ink it's goingo be for tv only.sh: now is this going to change howeiew liveofessional s?

Ake rand key) dr. mcclni don't thinkere's y it this vir is going to be the one that we can't deal with.ke s fore us.

We wilfind a way, uh, d maybe prevent.

It may be mething that, like the flu,'s gr and we'll come up with, uh, a vaccine that will.

Bring down some of the risks or the symptoms, but i don't think this is going to change the face because of the coronavirus itself anyway.

This sars-cov-2.

Going forward, we just have to deal with what we have currently, which is not a whole lot of information and by next year be the belief is any way in the medical community will have something that will allow us to get back to what we used to call normal.

(drop key) josh:thank you dr. mcclain for taking the time to speak with us today.

We appreciate you.

Dr. mcclain: my pleasure.
