Colgate Football Head Coach Dan Hunt
Talks return-to-play plans

Probably the most anticipated season in a long time because we've been deprived from all sports due to the coronavirus.

-- but when it returns, what will it look like?

What will practices even look like?

I sat down with colgate university football head coach dan hunt to discuss.

< dan hunt: one of the things i've said to the coaches and the team you know whatever team handles this adversity the best is going to have an advantage whenever we do start to play again.

The colate raiders, who finished last season on a three game winning streak, planned on returning to campus after spring break to train until the virus slowed down their their momentum.

Dan hunt: we had that momentum and we had a great winter and we're getting ready to have a spring and then all this happens.

I do think though that once we get back as a group just being around people it's going to spark that momentum again.

The n-c-a-a has announced that student-athletes can resume workouts on a voluntray basis on campus june 1 and a plan to bring football players to campus as early as june 8.

What does this mean for raider football?

Dan hunt: we had to make a lot of calls to our players and we are obviously eager to get back we understand that they were like oh june 1 let's get back let's get back to worknobviously new york's not there yet and cold it's not there yet i think one of the things we're going to have to be really good at is whenever we gethem bu know you have to kind of measure each kid where is he at and just make sure that you can't go from zero and put the gas pedal down bad things are going to happen you got to make sure that they are physically ready.

There have been a variety or return- to-play scenarios for the season: playing with no fans, playing in certain locations, and even playing in the spring.

Dan hunt: i think you'll see a season you'll probably see how much different feel maybe to the game day experience for the fans.

One good thing about coaches and athletes as we are just give us the rules and we're going to play whatever they decide about look like in the fall our guys will be all in on it.

In any resumption scenario, coach hunt says that the most important people are the equipment managers.

Dan hunt: the guys that really are kind of going to be the unsung heroes in all of this are your equipment people who are going to have to wash and sterilize and all of that i think that that's really the logistical part that needs to get worked out of how many kids are going to touch the football and when are we going to clean it and what are we going to do with the pads and stuff.

We've got great people you know making those decisions here and we will adapt.

The raiders official start date is scheduled for august 6.

Coach says that one matchup that he's looking forward to is their game against syracuse in the new and improved carrier dome.

I'm sure that central new york will come out big for that.
