Huntington University students create way to share virtual theater performances

The group of student actors and directors came up with a way to present three one-act performances part of the “Comedy Through the Ages” festival, each incorporating a different virtual element.

Covid-19 has put an end to many of the performances and events that we look to for entertainment.fox 55's jeremy masukevich tells us about a group of students from huntington university who are sharing theater performances the community can enjoy from home.

You need to be there, and be present with your partner.

This has proved that we can do it when campuses across the country began to close down eight theater students from huntington university didn't think they would be able to perform the shows they had been working on all semester.

Sot andrew 4:22we could just quit the project, shelve it, and just turn this class into a lecture-based theater management class.

Or we could try and figure this out.andrew bower and the student-run six & two theater company began to workshop how they could still share performances with the community.sot andrew 5:00i suggested let's just do a reading for all of them, keep it simple.

But they really wanted to take it on.

And so they decided for each show to have a different format.

But we were just going to do it as sort of a staged reading.

Hanson says learning how to direct a virtual live performance challenged her in new ways...nat eleni 32:55the camera angles don't have to be perfect, maybe the sound cuts out sometimes.'and that she was able to come to the realization that being able to share the art of performance is what matters most.sot eleni 34:06theaters across the county might be closed but theater in the spirit and the artform itself isn't.
