Residents flee their homes in the early hours after a burst water main floods 100 properties
Eight people were rescued and dozens evacuated in the early hours when a water main burst - just months after another flood caused chaos on the same street.Emergency crews, including 50 firefighters, police and paramedics, dashed to Park Lane West, in Tipton, West Mids., after a water pipe erupted just after 4.30am today (Tue).Hundreds of gallons of water cascaded down the road leaving cars and gardens under water as well as more than 150 homes without power. One property partially collapsed, with firefighters also combating a gas leak from the destroyed house.Incredibly, no one was injured in the floods which closed nearby roads and as well as Tipton Green Junior School and Silvertrees Academy nearby.A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said: "At 4.37am on Tuesday 4 February 2020 we received a 999 call reporting a severe flood in the Park Lane West area of Tipton Green, Tipton. "A water main had burst.
By 6.20am the supply had been turned off and water in the large area affected was subsiding. "Three people have been evacuated from three properties in Severn Close, but no-one has been reported injured. "Tipton Green Junior School has been severely affected by flooding and will be closed today. "Our first crew was at the scene in four minutes. "At the height of the incident, we had around 50 personnel at the scene, including a water rescue boat crew from our Technical Rescue Unit."The flood comes less than four months after another burst water main caused chaos for residents last October.Angry residents took to social media to express their anger at being evacuated from their homes for the second time in a matter of months.Writing on Facebook, Alan said: "Cannot believe our road is once again a river.

"South Staffs Water are truly a shower of s**t."Last October residents were forced to flee their homes after flooding was caused by an 18ins (45cm) crack in the main pipe.Area Commander Steve Vincent added: "Our sympathies are with everyone affected by this incident, which comes shortly after a similar burst main in the area in October. "One property on Park Lane West has partially collapsed, and we have a gas leak at that address. "Also, at 8am, there were around 150 homes in the local area without power. "We are working closely with Sandwell Council and colleagues from other agencies including the police and utility companies to return the scene to normality as soon as possible. "In the meantime, we would ask people to avoid the area."South Staffordshire Water said in a statement: "We are currently dealing with a burst main affecting Tipton, Smethwick and surrounding areas. "Our engineers are on site."Customers in the surrounding areas, including Smethwick, Bloxwich and West Bromwich, may be affected by low pressure, no water or discolouration while we work to repair the main. "Although your water may not look very nice and not what you'd normally expect, it's not harmful to health. "We're really sorry."
