The American Soybean Association has warned President Trump that the ongoing trade war with China is pushing U.S. soybean farmers toward financial collapse and a potential loss of global market dominance. Tariffs and Retaliation Threaten American Agriculture In a formal appeal to President Donald Trump, the American Soybean Association (ASA) expressed grave concern over the condition of the U.S. agricultural sector amid the trade conflict with China. The association emphasized that soybean farmers are in dire straits due to Beijing’s retaliatory tariff measures, which have driven the industry to the brink of a commercial and financial crisis. China, once the world’s largest soybean importer, had previously purchased up to 61 percent of global exports, the majority of which came from the United States. However, Beijing has drastically reduced imports of U.S. soybeans and shifted its demand to South American competitors—particularly Brazil.
