Brighton council: Change to cabinet system 'not in our best interests'

Northampton, Nottingham, Woking, Slough, Croydon, Thurrock, and Birmingham. Eagle-eyed Argus readers will spot the connection. All seven of the places mentioned have seen their council go bust. But bankrupt councils – bankrupt councils, I may add, that Labour’s shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves recently confirmed the incoming Labour government would not rescue – are not the only thing they have in common. Oh no. All seven are councils which use a leader and cabinet system.
