Nearly 70 years before becoming pope, Robert Francis Prevost called the Midwest home. Prevost, who on Thursday became Pope Leo XIV, was born in 1955 in Chicago and is a White Sox fan. His journey to the papacy, however, began south of the Windy City across the Mississippi River in St. Louis. On Sept. 1, 1977, Prevost started his path to the priesthood as a novice of the Order of St. Augustine in St. Louis.
