India has announced a dramatic suspension of all postal services to the United States starting August 25, following sweeping tariff changes by the Trump administration.
The move comes after Executive Order No.
14324 ended the duty-free exemption for items up to $800, hitting Indian exporters and postal customers hard.
With US-bound carriers refusing consignments due to undefined customs processes, India Post said only letters, documents, and small gifts under $100 will be exempt.
The suspension follows Trump’s 25% tariff on India, coupled with an additional 25% penalty for buying Russian oil, pushing the total levy to 50%.
Protests are rising as businesses, families, and exporters brace for chaos in shipments, refunds, and trade flows.
The Department of Posts has promised efforts to restore services but warned delays could be prolonged, intensifying an already heated US–India trade standoff.
