Rishi Sunak has insisted that energy firms’ windfall profits are being taxed to aid consumers.
During a visit to a London housing development, he addressed concerns over Centrica's profits and their impact on customers.
The prime minister said: “I took a decision back when I was chancellor to introduce a windfall tax on the energy companies, so we are now taxing these windfall profits of energy companies and we are using that money to help us pay around half of a typical family's energy bill.
