Rescuers Help Seagull Stuck on Power Line

This seagull got caught upside down in Sunderland, England, on April 30, 2022, after a fishing lure lodged in its foot got stuck on a utility line 30 feet in the air.

Firefighters with the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, along with personnel from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, threw up a rope to catch the hook and used the utility line as a makeshift zip line to slide the bird to safety.

Veterinarians removed the hook from the bird’s foot, and it was brought to a local animal rescue charity, where it is reportedly recovering before being returned to the wild.

This is a reminder that discarded and lost fishing gear has an incredibly detrimental effect on wildlife.

Please clean up after yourselves.
