Finland wants to join NATO: Russia in anger Finnish President Sauli Niinistö has reaffirmed his country's right to join NATO if it wants to, rejecting Russia's demands not to expand the Western military alliance near its borders.
He said: "Finland's room for maneuver and freedom of choice also includes the possibility of military negotiation and applying for NATO membership."
