The rochester public library is involved in the city's emergency operations planning.

In 2020 ?

"* that plan had to go into effect.

Kimberly edson is the head of reader services at the rochester public library... before the pandemic hit ?

"* her tasks included managing programs at the library and helping people find books.

Now ?

"* she's managing the covid information line.

Librarians are information specialists and can quickly scour the web for info.

By helping with the call line ?

"* they take some of the burden off the shoulders of olmsted county public health.

People had questions.

Lots of questions.

And who can they trust the most to answer those questions?

Your local librarian.

And it gave meaningful work for people to do at home and some of us were medically vulnerable and being able to work frontline really wasnt an option.
