Miracle madness?

It's a new fundraising event created to raise money for riley hospital.

Purdue university dance marathon organizers are hosting the event.

News 18s micah upshaw joins us in the studio to tell us how it works.

Micah?

P it's a virtual fundraising event.

Several students will go head to head to see who can raise the most amount of money in the quickest amount of time.

The goal is to help keep child cancer research at the forefront despite the covid-19 pandemic.

Pudm typically takes place during the fall semester.

It brings together hundreds of students dedicated to raising money for all riley hospital needs.

Last year's event was done virtually in order to meet cdc covid- safety guidelines.

Students raised nearly 800-thousand dollars but typically this event brings in over a million.

Organizers say miracle madness was created to keep the fundraising momentum going.

That's because it truly has an impact on the kids they serve.

It's just so inspiring to see these little kids who were just going through so much but they're staying so strong and they're staying so optimistic.

And it just feels really great to know that what we're doing is really helping them, cause they tell us all the time how much it means.

There are 16 teams competing.

Each team represents the different committees that make up pudm.

Today's goal is for each team to raise 28- dollars.

This represents the 28 certified child-life specialists at riley.

Each day the goal increases a little.

The best way to keep up with this fundraising initiative is through pudm's official instagram page.

That link as well as a link to donate are on our website wlfi.com.
