New school guidance from Oneida County

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente released suggested school guidance Wednesday to help get students back in the classroom safely.

On this wednesday.

Happy st.

Patrick's day!

We begin with new safety guidelines to help school districts bring students back to the classroom, full-time....here in oneida county.

News channel two's joleen ferris joins us now live in the studio with the details.

Joleen.... picente told newschannel two last week that if they can figure out a way for student- athletes to take pa in highriske a way to figure out a way to get them in a classroom every day.

One year into the pandemic.... new cases in oneida county are down to around 30 to 40 a day.

The first word of the guidance : ideal.

In the ideal classroom, teachers will be vaccinated and tested for covid every 2 weeks.

And, they would teach from behind an impenetrable, clear barrier, wearing a mask.

And, they'd wear a mask and face shield while interacting with students.

Students would be no closer than 3 feet apart; ideally, six.

They'd wear face masks and shields, and use both while interacting with teachers and other students, if not behind an impermeable barrier.

And windows would be open when it's more than 45 degrees out.

On buses, similar restrictions.

Three feet, masks and social distancing.

Optional sneeze guards-the bus company's call.

And, again, windows open 45 degrees and higher.

As for the bus drivers, ideally, vaccinated, testing every two weeks.

A physician at today's press conference made the case for bringing students back full time, saying keeping them home is doing more harm than good.

33:51 "i am seeing....... 34:11 "we're doing more harm than good later today, we'll hear from the county's largest school district about this guidance, how realistic it is, and if they'll be able to bring students back full time under it.

Back to you for now.
